As a kid Tessa van den Eeden (1991, Eindhoven) explored many different art forms. Dancing, singing, dressing up, writing, theatre, fashion, drawing. All combined in her performances, shows and artworks from today. Driven by the curiosity for her own, complicated inner world - she explores mental health theme's and taboo's.
'I find myself mainly touching on mental health subjects or other things we often get uncomfortable around or find hard to express. From a young age I struggled with my mental health. I had a lot of big questions and emotions that kept me occupied.'
In her work she explores fears, desires, wishes and sins as part of us as human beings. Trying not to decide whether something is good or bad, but only to feel and express them. It's a challenge.
"I try to create something that expresses themes I struggle to face. Addiction, insecurity, self-doubt, fear of failure or a desperate need for attention. I hope to create something that will make me and others a little more willing to explore these theme's rather than surprising or judge them.
Tessa van den Eeden is currently based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
